Conditions of Use

Effective August 12, 2026

Historical lineage. These Conditions evolve from the preserved EvoLIC Conditions of Use created in November 2004. The original historical HTML is preserved separately as a source artifact and is not rewritten by this document.

Conditions of Use

Light Science LLC provides the public Light Science Engineering Systems websites and their content subject to these Conditions. By accessing or using a public LSES website, you agree to these Conditions to the extent permitted by applicable law. Additional terms may apply when a particular service, account, transaction, submission, or interactive feature is offered.

Copyright and Intellectual Property

Original text, graphics, photographs, designs, research, compilations, software, publications, and other original material created for Light Science Engineering Systems are owned by Light Science LLC or the identified rights holder and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Historical source artifacts may contain material owned by third parties; preservation of such material does not transfer ownership to Light Science LLC.

License and Site Access

You are granted a limited, revocable, nonexclusive right to access the public sites for lawful personal, educational, research, and informational use. Unless expressly authorized, this permission does not include resale of site content, commercial republication, systematic extraction, unauthorized modification, removal of attribution, misleading use of LSES identity, or use of the sites in a way that interferes with their security or operation. Ordinary linking to public pages is permitted so long as the link does not falsely imply sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement.

Historical Archives and Source Artifacts

LSES may preserve historical websites, documents, photographs, trademarks, names, products, correspondence, or other source material for documentation, research, education, provenance, and historical understanding. Third-party marks and materials remain associated with their respective rights holders. Their appearance in an archive does not imply current affiliation, sponsorship, endorsement, or ownership by Light Science LLC.

Reviews, Comments, Communications, and Other Content

Where a public LSES site permits submissions or community participation, you may contribute lawful material that you have the right to share. Content may not be unlawful, threatening, defamatory, invasive of privacy, infringing, deceptive, malicious, or designed to disrupt the service. Light Science LLC may moderate or remove material when reasonably necessary to protect participants, intellectual property, the historical record, or operation of the service.

You retain ownership of material you submit. By intentionally submitting material for public display, you grant Light Science LLC a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, format, display, and distribute that material as reasonably necessary to operate the feature and preserve the associated discussion or historical record. This license does not authorize unrelated sale of your submitted content.

Engineering and Informational Content

LSES publications document engineering experience, historical practice, research, processes, systems, and evolving understanding. They are provided for informational and educational purposes. Conditions vary between projects and environments; published material does not replace project-specific professional judgment, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, safety procedures, or legal, financial, or other regulated professional advice.

Accuracy, Corrections, and Evolving Understanding

LSES is designed to preserve both sources and the development of understanding. Information may be corrected, expanded, or reclassified as additional evidence becomes available. Where practical, historical work distinguishes documented evidence, firsthand knowledge, contextual evidence, inference, and unresolved questions. No representation is made that every historical or technical statement will remain complete or unchanged.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the public sites and their content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Light Science LLC does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, freedom from every error, or suitability of general information for a particular project or purpose. Nothing in these Conditions excludes warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Light Science LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages arising solely from use of, reliance on, or inability to access the public informational sites. These limitations do not apply where liability cannot legally be limited or excluded.

External Links

Publications may link to archives, manufacturers, references, organizations, or other third-party resources. Those services are controlled by their respective operators. A link is provided for context or convenience and does not by itself constitute endorsement.

Privacy

Privacy practices for the public sites are described in the LSES Privacy notice. Where California privacy law applies to a particular LSES activity, applicable statutory rights are not waived by these Conditions.

Applicable Law and Disputes

These Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

The 2004 EvoLIC Conditions required confidential arbitration in Fremont, California. The 2026 LSES Conditions do not automatically carry that historical arbitration clause forward for ordinary public-site visitors. Any future service that requires binding arbitration or another mandatory dispute-resolution procedure should present that provision specifically and obtain the form of assent required by applicable law. Nothing in these Conditions waives rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be waived.

Site Policies, Modification, and Severability

Light Science LLC may update these Conditions as the public LSES ecosystem evolves. The effective date identifies the current version. If a provision is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, it will be treated as severable to the extent permitted by law without invalidating the remaining provisions.
